As I mentioned in my earlier blog...I was asked to teach a lesson to our YOung women learning the importance of planning and preparation...it was on setting your goals onto a Vision Board to help personlize your goals and aim for accomplishing them...It went well..
I began with the following all pasted to the blackboard on fun paper...
Scripture was D&C 88:119: Organize yourselves;prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, and a house of god;
Definition: Prepare is to lay the foundations, smooth the way, lay the groundwork, make provisions
Thought for the day: THOUGHTS BECOME THINGS
Personal Affirmation:I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, and happy"
I had those on the blackboard as part of the leaves of my tree, along with each of my childrens pictures blown up to an 8x10 photo added as more of those leaves...
I pretended that my vision board was to be one of those leaves of my growing tree that I hand picked and wanted to share with the girls!... I shared that like our goals it's like adding color into our lives when we achieve each one...we feel accomplished and successful, hence us wanting to move quicker and faster and do more with ourselves. I explained that their world is far more difficult then we were their age, and how important it is to confide in our father in heaven when achieving these goals.
I gave each girl, a quote on a piece of paper and asked each one to read their quote aloud to the class...one shared and read that "They are beautiful, or have a pretty smile...I then asked each to share how they felt after reading their quotes. Most said that they felt good...I tied it with the fact that with that same positive feeling, they can use that to structure their base for setting up their vision boards because without positive thoughts, their goals are unattainable...
I brought skittles and starburst as treats to give to the girls to add color into their own lives and then passed out a whole bunch of fun tools for each of them to make their own Dream Boards...
My testimony was to them was that our goals that we set for ourselves help us nourish our trees of life.
The girls did such an awesome job, I can hardly wait to see everyones boards when they are done...it'll be great to see them post it at their young women in excellence dinner!
